“Getting the Dream Deal--a Writer's Journey”

Penguin Books has just released Ottawa writer Peggy Blair’s debut novel, The Beggar's Opera to favourable reviews in The National Post, The Ottawa Citizen, Quill & Quire, and more.

Peggy shares the story of a journey to publication that took five years, 150 agent rejections, several manuscript drafts, and a fortunate encounter in a bar!

February Seminar

PWAC Ottawa is hosting a two-hour seminar on February 25th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ottawa Public Library, Main Branch Auditorium, 120 Metcalfe Street. Entitled "Getting a grip on your finances," this event features Ottawa money-minders Sandy Tunwell and Dylan Rose who will show you how to keep more of the money you earn and how to make it grow. Tunwell - owner, founder and managing consultant at accountrain - will present tax-time tips and discuss bookkeeping basics. Dylan Rose - financial advisor with the Independent Planning Group investment firm - will speak on planning for the future as an independent business operator.

This event is free to PWAC Ottawa members. Cost for non-members: $25 general public or $20 for students/members of writers' organizations. Non-members who register online at pwacottawa@gmail.com by February 22nd will receive a $5 discount on the entry fee.

Toronto Literary Agent and Rights & Contracts legal expert Marilyn Biderman will discuss what it takes to get a book contract and how to ensure you get a fair deal with a publisher. Q & A to follow.

After 12 years with McClelland & Stewart, Marilyn Biderman recently left her position as Vice President, Rights & Contracts, to found her own literary agency, Marilyn Biderman Literary Management. She has taught at the publishing programs at Ryerson University, Simon Fraser University, Humber College, and Centennial College. Marilyn is also a lawyer, and the author of several papers on copyright law.
